PSAT Practice Test

Build PSAT readiness with original Reading and Writing and Math questions for PSAT 8/9, PSAT 10, and PSAT/NMSQT.

PSAT practice sets

This page combines PSAT 8/9, PSAT 10, and PSAT/NMSQT preparation in one focused hub. It provides five short practice sets with 10 original questions each, covering Reading and Writing, Math, data analysis, problem solving, and digital test strategy.

Skills covered

  • Reading and Writing — Information and Ideas, Craft and Structure, Standard English Conventions, and Expression of Ideas
  • Math — algebra, advanced math, problem solving, data analysis, geometry, and trigonometry
  • Evidence — passages, tables, graphs, cross-text connections, and cautious conclusions
  • Digital test strategy — modules, Bluebook, calculator use, timed practice, error analysis, and targeted review

PSAT 8/9, PSAT 10, and PSAT/NMSQT format

Current College Board materials describe the digital PSAT Suite as two sections: Reading and Writing and Math. Each section is divided into two timed modules. The tests are administered digitally through Bluebook, and current testing rules, timing, devices, calculators, and accommodations must be checked before test day.

How to use this page

Start with one untimed set to identify skills, then use timed sets to build pacing. Review every explanation, record the skill behind each missed answer, and solve a new original problem before moving on.

These questions are original supplemental practice. They are not official College Board questions, Bluebook content, a score calculator, a National Merit selection tool, or a substitute for current College Board rules and resources.

For current scope and preparation, check the PSAT 10 overview, the PSAT 8/9 guide, the PSAT/NMSQT Reading and Writing overview, the official practice tests, and the current PSAT/NMSQT testing rules.

  1. Read the task: Identify the passage evidence, grammar relationship, mathematical quantity, or data display the PSAT Suite question asks you to use.
  2. Apply the skill: Compute 18 ÷ 24 = 0.75, which is 75 percent.
  3. Check the response: Make sure the answer is supported by the text, calculation, graph, table, or stated testing context.

Compute 18 ÷ 24 = 0.75, which is 75 percent.

2. QuestionMultiple choice

A rectangle has length 12 and width 7. What is its area?

Please select an answer first.

Correct answer: D

The correct answer is 84.

  1. Read the task: Identify the passage evidence, grammar relationship, mathematical quantity, or data display the PSAT Suite question asks you to use.
  2. Apply the skill: Area equals length times width: 12 × 7 = 84.
  3. Check the response: Make sure the answer is supported by the text, calculation, graph, table, or stated testing context.

Area equals length times width: 12 × 7 = 84.

3. QuestionMultiple choice

A circle has radius 3. Which expression represents its area?

Please select an answer first.

Correct answer: A

The correct answer is 9π.

  1. Read the task: Identify the passage evidence, grammar relationship, mathematical quantity, or data display the PSAT Suite question asks you to use.
  2. Apply the skill: Circle area is πr², so π(3²) = 9π.
  3. Check the response: Make sure the answer is supported by the text, calculation, graph, table, or stated testing context.

Circle area is πr², so π(3²) = 9π.

4. QuestionMultiple choice

A right triangle has legs 6 and 8. What is the length of the hypotenuse?

Please select an answer first.

Correct answer: B

The correct answer is 10.

  1. Read the task: Identify the passage evidence, grammar relationship, mathematical quantity, or data display the PSAT Suite question asks you to use.
  2. Apply the skill: By the Pythagorean theorem, c² = 6² + 8² = 100, so c = 10.
  3. Check the response: Make sure the answer is supported by the text, calculation, graph, table, or stated testing context.

By the Pythagorean theorem, c² = 6² + 8² = 100, so c = 10.

5. QuestionMultiple choice

A scatterplot shows that study time and score tend to rise together. What type of association is shown?

Please select an answer first.

Correct answer: C

The correct answer is Positive association.

  1. Read the task: Identify the passage evidence, grammar relationship, mathematical quantity, or data display the PSAT Suite question asks you to use.
  2. Apply the skill: Both variables generally increase together, which is a positive association.
  3. Check the response: Make sure the answer is supported by the text, calculation, graph, table, or stated testing context.

Both variables generally increase together, which is a positive association.

6. QuestionMultiple choice

A sample has mean 18 and median 15. Which statement is reasonable?

Please select an answer first.

Correct answer: D

The correct answer is Some higher values may pull the mean above the median.

  1. Read the task: Identify the passage evidence, grammar relationship, mathematical quantity, or data display the PSAT Suite question asks you to use.
  2. Apply the skill: A few high values can raise the mean relative to the median.
  3. Check the response: Make sure the answer is supported by the text, calculation, graph, table, or stated testing context.

A few high values can raise the mean relative to the median.
