Please select an answer first.

Correct answer: A

The correct answer is 5.

  1. Identify the SAT task: Determine whether the question asks about a central idea, evidence, grammar, algebra, data, geometry, or another tested skill.
  2. Use the evidence or equation: Subtract five to get 3x = 15, then divide by three to get x = 5.
  3. Check the answer: Review the wording, calculation, and units before selecting the final response.

Subtract five to get 3x = 15, then divide by three to get x = 5.

2. QuestionMultiple choice

A line has slope 2 and passes through (0, 3). Which equation represents the line?

Please select an answer first.

Correct answer: B

The correct answer is y = 2x + 3.

  1. Identify the SAT task: Determine whether the question asks about a central idea, evidence, grammar, algebra, data, geometry, or another tested skill.
  2. Use the evidence or equation: Slope-intercept form uses slope 2 and y-intercept 3.
  3. Check the answer: Review the wording, calculation, and units before selecting the final response.

Slope-intercept form uses slope 2 and y-intercept 3.

3. QuestionMultiple choice

If f(x) = x squared − 4, what is f(3)?

Please select an answer first.

Correct answer: C

The correct answer is 5.

  1. Identify the SAT task: Determine whether the question asks about a central idea, evidence, grammar, algebra, data, geometry, or another tested skill.
  2. Use the evidence or equation: Substitute 3: 3 squared minus 4 equals 9 minus 4, or 5.
  3. Check the answer: Review the wording, calculation, and units before selecting the final response.

Substitute 3: 3 squared minus 4 equals 9 minus 4, or 5.

4. QuestionMultiple choice

The equation x squared − 9 = 0 has which positive solution?

Please select an answer first.

Correct answer: D

The correct answer is 3.

  1. Identify the SAT task: Determine whether the question asks about a central idea, evidence, grammar, algebra, data, geometry, or another tested skill.
  2. Use the evidence or equation: Factoring gives (x − 3)(x + 3) = 0, so the positive solution is 3.
  3. Check the answer: Review the wording, calculation, and units before selecting the final response.

Factoring gives (x − 3)(x + 3) = 0, so the positive solution is 3.

5. QuestionMultiple choice

A quantity increases from 80 to 100. What is the percent increase?

Please select an answer first.

Correct answer: A

The correct answer is 25 percent.

  1. Identify the SAT task: Determine whether the question asks about a central idea, evidence, grammar, algebra, data, geometry, or another tested skill.
  2. Use the evidence or equation: The increase is 20, and 20 divided by 80 equals 25 percent.
  3. Check the answer: Review the wording, calculation, and units before selecting the final response.

The increase is 20, and 20 divided by 80 equals 25 percent.

6. QuestionMultiple choice

If 2a = 3b and b = 4, what is a?

Please select an answer first.

Correct answer: B

The correct answer is 6.

  1. Identify the SAT task: Determine whether the question asks about a central idea, evidence, grammar, algebra, data, geometry, or another tested skill.
  2. Use the evidence or equation: Substitute b = 4 to get 2a = 12, so a = 6.
  3. Check the answer: Review the wording, calculation, and units before selecting the final response.

Substitute b = 4 to get 2a = 12, so a = 6.

7. QuestionMultiple choice

The expression x squared + 6x + 9 is equivalent to:

Please select an answer first.

Correct answer: C

The correct answer is (x + 3) squared.

  1. Identify the SAT task: Determine whether the question asks about a central idea, evidence, grammar, algebra, data, geometry, or another tested skill.
  2. Use the evidence or equation: The trinomial is a perfect square: (x + 3) squared.
  3. Check the answer: Review the wording, calculation, and units before selecting the final response.

The trinomial is a perfect square: (x + 3) squared.

8. QuestionMultiple choice
